Gerard Willems, pianist Dutch Culture-The Migrant Experience
Dutch-born pianist Gerard Willems migrated to Australia with his family in 1958.
Having graduated with honours at the Sydney Conservatorium, he is now one of Australia's finest
concert pianists. |  | Gerard has won many awards throughout his career, including two ARIAs for best
classical albums, making him the first pianist to receive this prestigious award.
He has toured extensively, performing internationally as concerto soloist and with all
the major orchestras.
Join Gerard as he shares his experiences on adjusting to life on the other side of the
world and how this change affected his musical ambitions and the career that followed.
The talk will be accompanied by a live performance of his original compositions. |  |

Denise Minnocchi, assistant curator, Australian art Denise will discuss this Focus Room exhibition which provides an in-depth historical analysis of Pan as well as considering the work's significance within the broader developments of Australian landscape painting during the build-up to Federation.
