in association with Ângela Ferreira & Narelle Jubelin
Dr Ann Stephen, University of Sydney
Narelle Jubelin & the looting of modernism
Despite successive efforts to mark the demise of modernism and its museums,
some of the most interesting contemporary art returns to haunt the hallowed sites
and ruins of 20th-century modernism.
In recent projects that revisit, resurrect or
reinvent modernism, such as The Great Divide by Narelle Jubelin and Ângela Ferreira,
the art of the '60s has come to assume considerable significance. Dr Ann Stephen, senior curator, University of Sydney
Art Gallery and Collection, will look at Jubelin's works in terms of how it re-engages with (or loots) modernism.
