Satsuki Odamura, koto

The koto has been one of Japan's most popular musical instruments since it was taken up as entertainment for the wealthy merchants of the early Edo period around the 17th century. To many, koto music is evocative of traditional Japan, with the attributes of the western harp. This program featuring performers Satsuki Odamura, Shoko Ono and Hitomi Kurosawa ranges from the simplicity of the traditional melodies to challenging contemporary pieces.
